District rehearsal sets the stage for state-level spectacle on September 13 at Khanapara in august presence of PM Narendra Modi

Cachar strikes the right note ahead of Dr Bhupen Hazarika centenary grand chorus

Janasanyog, Silchar : The reverberating strains of melody filled Hindi Bhawan near the District Commissioner’s office on Friday as Cachar district witnessed an intensive rehearsal for the much-anticipated Grand Chorus to mark the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. Twenty selected participants from across the district came together for the training session under the guidance of master trainer Alekhya Chakraborty, who arrived from Guwahati to fine-tune the performances ahead of the state-level spectacle.

The rehearsal assumes special significance as these trained participants will represent Cachar at the Grand Chorus on September 13, 2025, at the Veterinary Science Playground, Khanapara, Guwahati, which will be graced by the august presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and other distinguished dignitaries. The directive issued by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, stated that the grand performance will be a historic tribute as part of the year-long centenary celebrations. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s birth anniversary on September 8 will also witness district-level programs across Assam, culminating in the central celebration at Guwahati on September 13.

Meanwhile, Additional District Commissioner of Cachar . Phyllis Hrangchal, ACS, expressed delight over the spirited participation. “This grand chorus is more than just a performance, it’s a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Dr Bhupen Hazarika, whose music continues to unite generations. Today’s rehearsal reflects Cachar’s cultural richness and readiness to contribute to this historic celebration,” she said.

Adding to the sentiments, Assistant Commissioner and In-charge of DDIPR Barak Valley Zone, Deepa Das, ACS, who is also the branch officer of the Cultural Affairs Department, praised the meticulous preparation. “Our participants are showcasing exceptional commitment, and under expert guidance, Cachar will make its mark in this centenary celebration,” she added, emphasizing the significance of preserving Assam’s cultural legacy.

While ,Cultural Development Officer Snehangshu Roy too echoed similar enthusiasm, underscoring that the event aims to uphold Bhupen Hazarika’s message of harmony through music. The rehearsal not only prepared the singers for the grand performance but also stood as a testament to the district’s vibrant cultural fabric and the administration’s proactive role in nurturing it.
