Assam is rapidly marching towards becoming one of amongst India’s top five states in development under the leadership of Assam CM: Minister Krishnendu Paul. Minister hails CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s vision for equal growth in Barak & Brahmaputra valleys.
SILCHAR: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam is rapidly marching towards becoming one of the top five states in India,” stated Minister for Public Works (Roads), Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, and Fisheries, Shri Krishnendu Paul, as he formally inaugurated the Dholai Co-District Commissioner’s office on Tuesday. The function, held in Forest inspection bunglow, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, newly appointed Co-District Commissioner Roktim Baruah, Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, and other senior officials. The event marked a historic moment for the region, symbolising not only administrative expansion but also the state government’s commitment to decentralised governance and inclusive growth.
Later, addressing the gathering at PWD field ,Dholai ,Minister Krishnendu Paul expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for his unwavering vision of equal development in both the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys. He contrasted this with what he described as the apathy of previous governments, recalling the tragic incident where an ADC in Patharkandi lost his life while advocating for subdivision status , a demand that remained unfulfilled for years. “It is under this government that Patharkandi has been given Co district status. This is not just an administrative move but a recognition of the people’s long-standing aspirations,” Minister Paul said, drawing applause from the audience.
The minister underscored that the Assam Government has a target of forming 78 Co districts in the state, out of which 39 have already been set up and 10 more have been recently announced and will be set up before August 15, 2025. For Dholai, he announced the inclusion of vital government wings such as RKG, DDMA, Transformation & Development, Land Revenue, Food & Civil Supplies, and Panchayat & Rural Development departments under the Co-District Commissioner’s office. He informed that the Assam government has sanctioned ₹50 crore for the development of Dholai’s infrastructure. Minister Krishnendu Paul also cited the swift repair of the Bhangarpar Bridge, completed in just 25 days, and the ahead-of-schedule reopening of the Gammon Bridge on July 16 as examples of CM Sarma’s hands-on leadership. He highlighted the government’s focus on tea garden upliftment through the construction of model schools for workers’ children and concrete roads in every tea estate, and extended special thanks to Minister for Barak Valley Development, Kaushik Rai, for spearheading local growth initiatives.
Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, speaking on the occasion, congratulated the residents of Dholai and lauded the state government’s emphasis on balanced regional development. He described the inauguration as a landmark event for Cachar district and assured that he would extend all possible support to ensure Dholai’s progress in infrastructure, education, and public services.
Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das called it “a historic day” for his constituency. He announced that the Assam government has already sanctioned ₹50 crore under the Assam Mala scheme for the construction of roads in Dholai and pledged to work towards the establishment of a Circle Office, a 50-bedded hospital, a municipal board, and an Industrial Training Institute to equip unemployed youth with technical skills.
While ,Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty in his address ,described Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma as “the best Chief Minister in the history of Assam” and highlighted flagship schemes like Nijut Moina, Arunodoi, and women empowerment and educational initiatives. He congratulated the people of Dholai and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his focus on grassroots-level welfare.
Earlier, Cachar District Commissioner Mridul Yadav informed the gathering that the Dholai Co district office has already begun operations with 78 officials, ensuring that administrative services reach the people without delay. He outlined the departments currently functioning from the new office and assured that the district administration would provide full cooperation to the new unit.
Earlier ,newly appointed Dholai Co-District Commissioner Roktim Baruah delivered the welcome address, thanking the state leadership for their trust and pledging to uphold the highest standards of governance, transparency, and public service delivery in Dholai.
The event was also attended by District BJP president Rupam Saha, APDCL Director Nitya Bhusan Dey, CEO Zilla Parishad Pranab Kumar Bora, DIG Kankan Jyoti Saikia, Zilla Parishad president Kankan Sikidar, Assistant Commissioners Neihat Haolai and Masi Topno, Assistant Commissioner-cum-in-charge DDIPR Barak Valley Zone Silchar Smt. Deepa Das, along with senior officials from various departments and local community representatives.
