Cachar Administration holds district-level training on Bal Sabha under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative
Janasanyog, Silchar : In a significant step towards strengthening child rights and participatory governance, the Cachar district administration organized a one-day District Level Capacity Building Workshop on Bal Sabha under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme at Ghandhi Bhaban here on Wednesday. The event, held under the aegis of Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti Cachar, and the Department of Women and Child Development, was supported technically by Independent Thought, a UNICEF partner.
The workshop witnessed the presence of Cachar District Commissioner, Mridul Yadav, IAS, who addressed the gathering with a strong emphasis on empowering children as active stakeholders in governance. Additional District Commissioner (Women & Child Development) Phyllis Hrangchal and Dr. Sandip Roy, representing the Joint Director of Health Services, were also present.
While delivering his keynote address, DC Mridul Yadav underlined the need to integrate child participation into decision-making frameworks at the grassroots level. “Bal Sabhas are not just a statutory requirement; they are platforms for empowering the youngest citizens of our democracy. When we allow children to express their ideas and concerns, we are laying the foundation for a more inclusive and accountable governance system,” he mentioned.
The District Commissioner urged all departments and community-level institutions to adopt a child-sensitive approach while implementing welfare schemes. He added that true progress can only be achieved when children are given an environment where their voices are heard and respected.
“Child development is holistic, it is not confined to education or health alone, but encompasses their safety, emotional well-being, and ability to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives,” DC Yadav said.
Meanwhile,the technical session was also held led by Mr. Jahirul Choudhary, Assistant Manager of Independent Thought, focused on operational aspects of Bal Sabhas and their transformative potential in villages and urban bodies. Highlighting the importance of participatory governance for children, Choudhary said that engaging them in structured dialogues enables better policy outcomes and nurtures leadership skills from a young age.
Stakeholders from various line departments, local bodies, and child welfare committees actively participated in the session, exchanging ideas and best practices to ensure effective implementation of Bal Sabhas across Cachar district.
The day-long workshop concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen child-centric governance and uphold the objectives of Mission Shakti and BBBP, paving the way for inclusive growth and social equity.
