Assam University has achieved a remarkable milestone in the NPTEL-SWAYAM online learning programme by securing a place among the Top 200 institutions in India for the first time. The university’s NPTEL-SWAYAM Local Chapter earned an ‘AA Rating’ in the January–June 2026 session, marking a significant achievement in its academic journey.

According to university sources, this is the first time Assam University has attained this prestigious recognition since the establishment of its NPTEL Local Chapter in 2017. Among educational institutions in Northeast India, only two institutions had previously achieved this distinction — North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and Tezpur University. NERIST secured a place in the Top 200 rankings in 2024 and 2025, while Tezpur University achieved the feat in 2025 and 2026.
