Patharkandi : In a major anti-narcotics operation, Patharkandi Police achieved a significant breakthrough on the Assam-Tripura National Highway by seizing 10,000 banned Yaba tablets and arresting a suspected drug courier from the Myna Bypass area.
According to police sources, the seized contraband is estimated to have a black-market value of nearly ₹30 lakh. The operation was conducted on the basis of specific intelligence inputs received by the police.
Special Operation Launched After Secret Tip-Off
Patharkandi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Manas Jyoti Boro said that on Wednesday evening, information was received that a large consignment of narcotics was being transported through the Assam-Tripura National Highway route.
Acting swiftly, a special police team laid a trap near the Myna Bypass. During the operation, officers noticed a man crossing the road on foot in a suspicious manner. He was immediately detained and searched.
Accused Identified as Local Resident
The arrested individual has been identified as Kamal Uddin, a resident of Dhalchhara village. During the search, police recovered five black plastic-wrapped packets from his possession. Upon opening the packets, officers found 10,000 Yaba tablets concealed inside.
Kamal Uddin was arrested on the spot and taken to the police station along with the seized narcotics.
Police Suspect Link to Larger Drug Network
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused was allegedly working as a drug carrier. Police believe he was being used by a larger international drug trafficking network and was lured into transporting the consignment in exchange for money.
Inspector Boro stated that the timely action and vigilance of the police team foiled the trafficking attempt completely.
Public Appreciates Police Action
Following the seizure, residents and members of civil society in Patharkandi praised the proactive role of the police administration in curbing drug trafficking in the region.
Police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the law, and further investigation is underway to identify other members of the trafficking network.
