Silchar : A felicitation programme was organised on Wednesday at D.N.N.K. Girls Higher Secondary School in honour of Udharbond MLA Rajdeep Goala. Following the recent delimitation of Assembly constituencies, the institution now falls under the Udharbond Assembly segment.
The MLA arrived at the school campus at around 11:30 a.m., where he was warmly welcomed by students with a ceremonial Guard of Honour. He was escorted to the venue by the students. SMDC President Shantanu Nayek greeted him with a traditional uttariya, while Principal Dr. Abhijit Saha presented him with a commemorative memento.
The programme commenced with an inaugural song performed by students under the guidance of teacher Banshree Nath. In his welcome address, Principal Dr. Saha congratulated the MLA on his recent electoral victory. He also conveyed his best wishes for the continued progress of the nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India's history.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saha highlighted the institution’s rich heritage and historical significance. He remarked that educational institutions with such a distinguished legacy are rare in the region. The Principal also outlined several infrastructure development initiatives undertaken by the school over the past five years without any major special financial assistance from the government.
He further noted that despite shortages of teaching and administrative staff, the school has consistently worked to maintain educational standards. As in previous years, the institution recorded commendable results in both the HSLC and Higher Secondary examinations. Notably, while the overall HSLC pass percentage in Cachar district declined this year, nearly 88 per cent of the school's students successfully passed the examination.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Rajdeep Goala expressed his admiration after learning about the school's remarkable history. He stated that he had previously been unaware of the institution’s unique legacy of patriotism and sacrifice. Referring to former student Smt. Amita Kumari Chand of the 1921 Mission School, which later evolved into the present Government Higher Secondary and Multipurpose Girls' School, he described her spirit of self-respect and determination as a source of inspiration for all.
The MLA assured the school community of his full cooperation in its overall development and appreciated the institution for maintaining a healthy academic environment.
Managing Committee Vice-President Dr. Indrani Bhattacharya congratulated the MLA and sought his support for the welfare and progress of the school.
Representatives of the school's Alumni Association, including President Dr. Smriti Paul, Secretary Moumita Nath and Assistant Secretary Srima Das, also felicitated the MLA with traditional uttariyas. Members of the school's NSS Unit similarly honoured him during the programme.
In his presidential address, SMDC President Shantanu Nayek said he felt fortunate to have been associated with the institution for nearly a decade. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue working for the development and advancement of the school.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by teacher Dr. Sandeep Debnath. The proceedings were efficiently conducted by teacher Panchali Dev.
