Assam University celebrates Independence Day with patriotic fervour

Silchar: Assam University’s Silchar campus came alive with patriotic fervour as it celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with a series of vibrant events that saw the active participation of students, faculty, and staff, all united in commemorating the nation’s freedom struggle.

The highlight of the day was Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant’s inspiring address after hoisting the tricolor. “We are working with dedication to realize the dream that our founding fathers envisioned for our country,” he remarked. Emphasizing the crucial role of education, he described universities as “the backbone of the man-making mission that ultimately fuels the nation-building project,” stressing how institutions of higher learning shape responsible citizens who drive societal progress.

The Vice Chancellor inspected the guard of honour accorded to him by the NCC boys and girls cadets of the Assam University unit along with the contingent of the University security personnel. The NCC boys’ and girls’ units presented an impressive parade, showcasing their precision drills and marching skills. Later, Prof. Pant conferred ranks to the NCC cadets, in recognition of their discipline and commitment. He also distributed certificates to students who had brought laurels to the university in various academic and cultural competitions at state and national levels.

The cultural programme coordinated by the Department of Performing Arts saw the rendition of several patriotic songs and verses recalling the sacrifices of our freedom fighters during the freedom struggle. Several school children from nearby schools and residents from the nearby community also attended the lively programme anchored by Dr. Joyashri Dey. Several top officials of the University, including the Registrar Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath, Finance Officer Dr. Shubhadeep Dhar, several Deans of Schools and Heads of departments and other teaching and non-teaching members were present at the occasion.
