SILCHAR, AUGUST 6: In a move that signals a stronger push for quality healthcare access in rural Cachar, the District Administration and District Health Society on Wednesday unveiled a newly installed X-ray service at the MG Model Hospital, Palonghat, under the Dholai Block Primary Health Centre (BPHC).

The facility was formally inaugurated by Dholai MLA Shri Nihar Ranjan Das, who expressed his deep satisfaction at the addition of such a vital diagnostic service in the region.

“This is not just an addition of a machine; this is about timely diagnosis, faster treatment, and a step towards reducing the dependency on Silchar for every basic test. Our aim is to ensure that rural healthcare is no longer neglected,” the MLA said, addressing a gathering of health officials, community representatives, and locals.

The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of key district health officials, including Dr. Shivananda Roy, Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar; Dr. Mridul Deory, SDM & HO (i/c), Dholai BPHC; and Shri Rahul Ghose, District Programme Manager, NHM, Cachar, among others.

It's worth mentioning that the MG Model Hospital, a crucial health centre serving Palonghat and its adjoining areas, had long felt the need for enhanced diagnostic services. With the installation of the X-ray unit, medical practitioners will now be able to offer quicker diagnoses of fractures, chest conditions, and other ailments often critical in emergency or trauma cases.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Shivananda Roy emphasized the government’s continuous efforts to upgrade health facilities in rural belts under the National Health Mission. “This is a step toward bridging the urban-rural divide in healthcare. The X-ray service will significantly reduce patient turnaround time and improve treatment outcomes,” he said.

Officials present also highlighted that this development is in line with the district’s broader healthcare roadmap one that aims to decentralize diagnostic and treatment facilities for enhanced reach and equity in public health.

As villagers gathered to witness the launch, many expressed hope that the facility would relieve them of frequent and often costly trips to Silchar for routine scans. “This is a long-awaited demand finally fulfilled,” said a local resident.

With the District Administration of Cachar and District Health Society jointly steering such developments, the inauguration stands as a testament to a people-first approach in public health governance bringing essential services closer to those who need them the most.
