TEL AVIV, AUGUST 8: The Israeli security cabinet has approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to take control of Gaza City. The decision, which came after Netanyahu announced his intentions on Thursday, is now paving the way for the Israeli military to prepare for a full takeover of the city.
This move has raised significant concerns among human rights activists and experts, who fear that the conflict between Israel and Hamas will intensify, leading to a severe escalation of violence and a tragic loss of life. The Gaza Strip has already been described as a "living hell" due to the ongoing war, with a daily toll of casualties, including many children.
Humanitarian organizations have been warning about a deepening crisis in Gaza, marked by widespread food shortages and the outbreak of diseases. Experts believe that the planned takeover of Gaza City will only worsen the situation.
According to the plan, all Palestinian residents of Gaza City are to be relocated to central refugee camps and other areas by October 7 of this year. This period will be used by the Israeli military to target and eliminate Hamas leaders. Following this, Israeli forces will proceed with their full-scale occupation of the city.
In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office confirmed that the Israeli army will prepare for the takeover while also providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians outside the conflict zone. However, the plan extends beyond Gaza City, with Israel reportedly considering a long-term strategy to control the entire Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu has stated that Israel does not intend to permanently occupy Gaza. This has sparked speculation about whether a third country might be given control of the territory, a question that remains unanswered for now.
