Imphal: In a significant security crackdown, Manipur security forces have successfully apprehended three active members of banned organizations over the past two days in two separate operations. This intensified security drive across sensitive areas of the state is aimed at maintaining law and order, with authorities establishing 112 search checkpoints.
On August 9, security forces arrested Wahengwam Kiran Singh alias Amuthoi (25), an active member of the PREPAK (Pro) outfit, from his residence in Kumbhi Thingel Leikai, Bishnupur district. According to officials, Amuthoi was allegedly involved in extortion and intimidation of local businessmen and the general public. A mobile phone was seized from his possession.
Earlier, on August 8, Manipur Police successfully apprehended Oinam Sonia Devi alias Tete (31), an active member of the KCP (Taibanganganba) group, from Chingmeirong Maning Leikai in Imphal West district. Sonia, a resident of Thanga Oinam Leikai in Bishnupur district, was found with a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card.
On the same day, security forces also arrested Kshetrimayum Naoba Singh alias Jebases (28), an active member of the KCP (MFL) group, from Haobam Marak Irom Leikai in Imphal West district. Naoba Singh was accused of extortion by sharing contact details of doctors in the valley with cadres of the banned organization. A mobile handset and an Aadhaar card were confiscated from him.
In a parallel effort, Manipur Police are continuing their crackdown on motor vehicle-related offenses. On August 8, they issued a total of 51 challans under the Motor Vehicles Act, collecting a total fine of ₹88,500. The previous day, police also removed colored film from the windows of 12 vehicles, underscoring the enforcement of traffic regulations.
Furthermore, security forces are conducting search operations and area domination activities in the border and vulnerable regions of various districts. Under strict security supervision, the movement of 116 vehicles carrying essential goods was ensured along NH-37, with escorts provided in sensitive sections of the highway.
A total of 112 checkpoints have been established across the hill and valley districts, with authorities confirming that no individuals have been detained at these points. The state's authorities have emphasized that such operations will continue to maintain peace and order in the region.
