Khowai, Tripura: A deeply disturbing and tragic incident has shaken the state of Tripura, where a one-year-old girl has allegedly been murdered by her own father. The accused is a high-ranking officer of the esteemed Tripura State Rifles (TSR), bringing a new layer of shock and disgrace to the community. The little girl's only "crime," according to her mother, was being born a girl.
The heart-wrenching incident reportedly took place in the Tulashikhar area of Khowai. The child's mother, whose identity has not been revealed for her safety, has leveled a severe accusation against her husband, Rathindra Debbarma. She alleges that Debbarma, a jawan currently posted at the TSR’s 10th Battalion headquarters in Khumulwng, intentionally poisoned their daughter by mixing a substance into a cold drink.
The mother claims that her husband had been subjected her to relentless physical and mental abuse for failing to bear a son. This alleged abuse escalated tragically when he reportedly took their daughter from her side while she was asleep. The mother's world was shattered when she later learned that her innocent daughter’s body had been taken to the GB Hospital morgue. Distraught and filled with anguish, she rushed to the hospital in a state of utter desperation.
Further questions have arisen about the circumstances of the child's arrival at the hospital. The mother is questioning who brought her daughter to the morgue and which doctor examined her, as she was completely unaware of the events until after the fact.
The accused, Rathindra Debbarma, was eventually apprehended by furious locals at the GB Hospital compound. Public anger erupted upon seeing him, and he was quickly taken into police custody to be shielded from the enraged crowd. He is currently being held under tight security at the local police station as an investigation is launched into this heinous crime.
Police are now working to piece together the details of the case, which has left the community reeling in disbelief. The incident stands as a stark reminder of the deep-seated prejudices that can lead to such horrific acts, casting a shadow over the state.
