Janasanyog, Silchar, August 9, 2025 : A special cleanliness drive was organized on Friday in Silchar under the national theme “Swacchata Hi Swatantrata” (Cleanliness is Freedom) with the joint initiative of Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Shristi Waste Management Team. The objective of the drive was to promote institutional hygiene and set an example of civic responsibility by ensuring cleanliness across key government and public offices in the town.
The cleanliness campaign was conducted at several important public institutions including the District Commissioner’s Office, Government Girls’ School, Deputy director of Information & Public Relations Office , Court Compound, Election Office, Divisional Forest Office (DFO), and the Zila Parishad Office.
The drive witnessed active participation from various stakeholders. Field officials of Silchar Municipal Corporation and teams from Shristi Waste Management undertook the cleaning activities. The campaign was further strengthened by the voluntary participation of community-based organizations and civil society members. A team of 10 volunteers from Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, along with 80 volunteers from A.L.F. (Maa Janani Samaj Seva), contributed significantly to the effort. Several Self-Help Groups (SHGs) namely Nilambari SHG, Maa Durga SHG, Sakshi SHG, and Padmanagar Unnayan Samity also participated with enthusiasm and civic spirit. Civic-minded individuals such as Rajiv Kumar also extended their voluntary support.
While sharing her reaction Commissioner of Silchar Municipal Corporation, Srishti Singh, IAS, expressed her appreciation and lauded the effort in an official statement. “Cleanliness is fundamental to the image and efficiency of public institutions. Initiatives like Swacchata Hi Swatantrata remind us that every government office should reflect the values of dignity, discipline, and hygiene. I appreciate the contribution of all volunteers, officials, and SHG members for their dedication and participation in this meaningful campaign,” she said.
The cleanliness drive aimed not only to enhance physical sanitation in high-footfall public offices but also to instil awareness among staff and visitors regarding the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy workplace. Posters and banners bearing the message “Swacchata Hi Swatantrata” were displayed at the cleaned sites to reinforce the values of cleanliness and civic responsibility.
It needs to mention that the Silchar Municipal Corporation intends to continue such institutional cleanliness drives as part of its ongoing commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission, with plans to engage more wards and community organizations in future campaigns.
The event concluded successfully with widespread appreciation from office staff, local citizens, and volunteers reaffirming the collective resolve to build a cleaner and healthier Silchar.
