Silchar News : In a stirring address at the Monmohan Ghosh & Anil Kumar Das Memorial College in Ramnagar, Silchar, Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha made a powerful statement, asserting that "students are the future of the nation, and it is imperative for them to have political consciousness." He emphasized the need for students to cultivate an awareness of national issues, including patriotism, security, and defense, from an early age. "Because today's students are tomorrow's future," he stated, adding that true education goes beyond merely acquiring a degree; it is about gaining genuine knowledge and a sense of purpose.
During the felicitation ceremony held on Wednesday, the MP drew upon recent events like the "Operation Sindur" and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic to highlight the country's progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. "Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has earned respect globally," Purkayastha declared. He recalled the global crisis during the pandemic, noting that while the world was grappling with chaos and loss, India, under PM Modi's guidance, faced the situation with a firm hand.
The MP also touched upon the nation's evolving stance on security. He contrasted the past, where he said governments were hesitant to respond forcefully to terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, with the current administration's decisive actions. "The recent 'Operation Sindur' proved that today's India is not the same as it was before," he said, citing the Indian armed forces' counter-strike inside Pakistan, which resulted in the destruction of multiple enemy warplanes and terrorist hideouts.
In a sharp critique, Purkayastha lambasted the opposition Congress party, accusing them of acting as a "spokesperson for Pakistan" during parliamentary debates on the "Operation Sindur." He pointed out that instead of inquiring about the number of Pakistani planes destroyed, the opposition was more interested in knowing how many Indian aircraft were lost, a stance he described as revealing and unpatriotic. He stressed that it is crucial for students to be well-informed about such political developments.
Praising the college's academic environment and infrastructure, MP Purkayastha shared his admiration for its growth. "Step by step, this college has achieved fame, and its students are earning degrees with a good reputation and great merit," he noted. He advised students that while everyone's goals are different, achieving them requires relentless hard work and a dedication to lifelong learning, along with a commitment to the greater good of society and the nation. He concluded by calling educational institutions "factories for building human beings" and teachers "the artisans," urging students to not just gain an education but to become better people.
The event saw the college authorities felicitate MP Kanad Purkayastha and Guru Charan University Vice-Chancellor Niranjan Roy. The Vice-Chancellor, in his address, commended the college's history and wished for its continued prosperity. Other distinguished guests who spoke at the event included former Director of the college and Principal of Women's College Shankar Bhattacharya, former Principal Mandira Dutta Chowdhury, and senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh official for South Assam, Jyotsnamoy Chakraborty.
The program began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting, followed by a welcome speech from Acting Principal Sanjit Kumar Das, who acknowledged the contributions of former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha, Vice-Chancellor Niranjan Roy, and Shankar Bhattacharya in the college's development. The event was further enriched by captivating musical and dance performances by the students, representing various linguistic and cultural traditions.
