Cachar Times Report, April 3, 2026 : The political atmosphere in Badarpur turned electric on Friday as a routine Congress electoral meeting was disrupted by a sudden and intense face-off between rival party supporters. The incident, which took place at the Congress office near the Badarpur railway gate, highlights the surging political temperatures as the election season reaches a fever pitch.
The event began as a scheduled strategy session featuring Amar Chand Jain, the Congress candidate for the Katigorah constituency, and senior leader Papan Deb. However, the peaceful proceedings were abruptly interrupted when a group of BJP Yuva Morcha (Youth Wing) activists arrived at the venue. Witnesses report that the activists began chanting high-decibel slogans, including "Jai Shree Ram" and "Amar Chand Jain Murdabad," creating an immediate state of tension.
Allegations of Provocation
Speaking on the disruption, Congress leader Papan Deb expressed his disappointment over the intrusion. "We were conducting our constitutional right to hold a party meeting. In the middle of our program, BJP workers arrived and began shouting 'BJP Zindabad' and 'Congress Murdabad' slogans. It was a clear attempt to intimidate our supporters," Deb stated.
The verbal volley between the two groups threatened to escalate into a physical confrontation. However, the Badarpur Police acted with commendable speed, arriving at the scene before any major violence could break out. Law enforcement officials remained on-site to ensure the situation stayed under control.
This incident has sparked fresh debate across the region regarding political intolerance. Local analysts and the conscious citizens of Badarpur observe that as the polls draw nearer, the frequency of "program vs. counter-program" tactics is rising.
