JAHANABAD/PATNA : In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves across Bihar, a minor boy named Ashu Sharma was allegedly brutally tortured and murdered at a boarding school in Jahanabad, just 50 km from Patna. The gruesome details of the case have triggered massive protests and raised serious questions about the safety of children in residential educational institutions.
A Father’s Nightmare
The victim's father, Ajay Sharma, had admitted Ashu to the hostel on April 1, 2026, hoping for a bright future. However, just five days later, on April 6, the family received a frantic call claiming their son was critically ill. Upon reaching the hospital, the parents were met with a horrific sight: Ashu lay covered in blood with a deep gash on his neck and severe injuries across his body. Despite being moved to a specialized ICU in a private hospital, the child succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Shocking Allegations of Torture
The family has filed a formal police complaint alleging that the child was sexually assaulted before being murdered with sharp weapons. Ashu’s elder brother, Rishu, who was also staying at the same hostel, provided a crucial lead. He stated that on the night of the incident, the school’s principal, Tarun Kumar, had taken Ashu to his private room. The boy was found in a critical, mutilated state the very next morning.
Police Action and Public Fury
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police have arrested the principal, Tarun Kumar. A case has been registered under sections pertaining to rape and murder. Investigating officers are currently interrogating the accused to uncover the full extent of the crime.
News of the brutality led to widespread anger in the locality. Protesters blocked the Patna-Gaya highway for hours, demanding the death penalty for the accused and stricter regulations for boarding schools.
