Dima Hasao Gears Up for Polls: Polling Teams Head to Remote Zones Ahead of April 9 Voting

Polling officials in Dima Hasao heading to remote voting centers with EVMs.

HAFALONG : The stage is set for the democratic festival in the hilly terrain of Dima Hasao. With the district administration finalizing all arrangements, the first wave of polling officials commenced their journey on Tuesday morning to the most inaccessible corners of the district ahead of the crucial April 9 polls.

Early Departure for Remote Terrains

In the 113-Haflong (ST) constituency, which houses a total of 261 polling stations, the logistics are particularly challenging. Due to the rugged geography, officials deployed to 23 remote centers were dispatched 48 hours in advance. Carrying Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and essential supplies, these teams are trekking to ensure that even the most isolated citizens can exercise their right to vote. The remaining 238 polling stations will see their teams depart in phases starting Wednesday morning.

District Commissioner’s Appeal: Vote Without Hesitation

District Commissioner and District Election Officer, Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge, addressed a press conference to reassure the public and encourage a massive turnout. She emphasized that voting will take place from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on April 9.

"I urge every voter to participate fearlessly in this grand festival of democracy. We have ensured every facility to make your voting experience smooth," stated Hyalinge.

Key Guidelines for Voters

To ensure maximum participation, the administration has declared a public holiday on polling day. For those who may not have their Voter ID cards, the Election Commission has approved several alternative documents for identification, including:

1. Aadhar Card / PAN Card

2. MGNREGA Job Card

3. Driving License

4. Post Office Passbooks

Prohibited Items: Voters are strictly advised not to carry mobile phones inside the polling booths to maintain the secrecy and integrity of the ballot.

High-Tech Surveillance and Tight Security

Security remains a top priority for the administration. Out of the 261 centers, 67 have been identified as sensitive. To prevent any untoward incidents, additional security personnel have been deployed in these zones. Furthermore, in a push for transparency, CCTV surveillance has been installed across all 261 polling stations to monitor the process in real-time.
