NEW DELHI— Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) expressed unwavering confidence on Thursday following exit poll projections that suggest a significant breakthrough for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal and Assam. Emboldened by the data, party stalwarts claimed that "double-engine" governments are set to take charge in both states, while also anticipating a strengthened presence in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The Projections: A Shift in Momentum

According to the Matriz Exit Poll, the BJP is projected to secure between 146 and 161 seats in the West Bengal Assembly, potentially capturing a 42.5% vote share.

Meanwhile, the forecasts for other states present a varied electoral landscape:

Tamil Nadu: The DMK-led alliance is favored to retain power in the 234-seat assembly.

Kerala: A neck-and-neck battle is anticipated, with the Congress-led UDF projected to secure 70–75 seats, slightly leading the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which is expected to land between 60–65 seats.

Assam: Multiple polls indicate a decisive wave of public support for the BJP.

Official counting is scheduled to commence on May 4.

Voices from the Leadership

Reacting to the forecasts, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat asserted that the mandate for change in West Bengal is undeniable. "The people of Bengal have resolved to bring about a transformation. Change is now a certainty," he stated.

BJP National Spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain echoed this sentiment, drawing a celestial parallel. "The formation of a BJP government in Bengal is as certain as the sunrise. We expect a landslide in Assam and West Bengal, a strong showing in Tamil Nadu, and surprising gains in Kerala," Hussain noted.

Focus on Peaceful Polling and Governance

Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi took a more measured yet optimistic tone, highlighting the electoral environment. "While the final verdict rests in the counting booths, it is significant that this election was conducted in a peaceful and fearless atmosphere—a departure from the violence of the past," he observed.

Echoing the "pro-incumbency" sentiment in Assam, JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad remarked that the overwhelming support for the BJP across nearly all exit polls underscores the public’s trust in the current administration.

Anticipation for May 4

As the nation awaits the official results, BJP leader Kapil Mishra described the prevailing mood as "saffron-hued," while Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak urged supporters to remain patient until the final tally is confirmed.

Many exit polls show the NDA leading, and feedback from the ground confirms an NDA government is imminent in Bengal, said JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha.

With the political climate reaching a fever pitch, all eyes are now on the Election Commission’s counting centers this coming Sunday.
