Badarpur | April, 24

A comprehensive health awareness seminar and medical examination camp were organized today at Nabinchandra College, Badarpur, under the joint auspices of the college’s Women’s Cell and the International Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The initiative, spearheaded by the College Principal, Dr. Partha Sarathi Das, aimed to address critical health issues among female students.

The event commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Barnasri Bakshi, Associate Professor in the Department of Bengali. Highlighting the psychological barriers faced by young women, Dr. Bakshi noted that many adolescent girls hesitate to discuss personal health concerns due to social stigma. She emphasized that the presence of a female medical expert provides a supportive environment for students to seek guidance without reservation.

In his presidential address, Principal Dr. Partha Sarathi Das extended his heartfelt gratitude to the guest of honor, Dr. Suparna Das Lala, a senior gynecologist from the Red Cross Society (Sribhumi Branch). Dr. Das remarked that despite her demanding professional schedule, Dr. Lala’s commitment to conducting medical checkups for the students is a gesture for which the college fraternity remains deeply indebted.

Echoing the importance of well-being, Vice-Principal Debajyoti Dasgupta reminded the audience that physical health remains an individual’s greatest asset, far outweighing material wealth.

During her keynote presentation, Dr. Suparna Das Lala identified several prevalent health challenges among college-aged women, including anemia, malnutrition, obesity, poor dietary habits, and a lack of awareness regarding reproductive health. "Most of these issues can be effectively managed or prevented through proactive awareness," Dr. Lala stated. She further emphasized that the health of adolescent girls is inextricably linked to the nation's future, noting that a healthy youth population is essential for a robust country—a vision currently prioritized by government healthcare policies.

The seminar was attended by a distinguished cohort of faculty members, including Senior Professor Soumitra Choudhury, Dr. Nandita Dutta, Dr. Hedayetullah Chowdhury, Dr. Pallab Deb, Dr. Amalina Paul Adhikari, Dr. Rupdatta Roy, Dr. Susmita Nath, Dr. Sarwar Alam Khan, Priya Mazumder, Nahina Rahman Mimi, and Priya Paul, among others.

The discussion was followed by a clinical session where Dr. Lala conducted health screenings for over 50 students. The entire program was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Mounita Nath, Convenor of the Women's Cell.
