PUNE, April 11: In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves across Maharashtra, a 27-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly murdering her six-year-old son. Preliminary investigations suggest the child was viewed as an "obstacle" in her extramarital relationship.
The accused, identified as Basiran Sheikh, had been living separately from her husband, Mehboob, following marital disputes. While two of their children lived with the father, the six-year-old son remained with Basiran. During this time, she reportedly entered into a romantic relationship with a friend.
According to police reports, Basiran and her lover conspired to eliminate the child to continue their relationship undisturbed. The innocent boy was allegedly drowned in a bucket of water and subsequently slammed against the floor to ensure his death.
The Deception and Arrest
Following the murder, Basiran took the lifeless body to her father's house, claiming the child had succumbed to a sudden heart attack. However, the grandmother and grandfather grew suspicious during the funeral preparations when they noticed multiple injury marks on the boy’s body.
Acting on their intuition, the family alerted the local police. A subsequent autopsy confirmed that the child had been murdered, leading to Basiran's immediate arrest.
Investigation Underway
While the mother is currently in custody, her lover remains at large. Pune Police have launched a massive manhunt to apprehend the accomplice. The incident has left the local community in mourning, raising serious concerns over the extreme consequences of domestic instability.
