Silchar Set for Grand Celebration: Multilingual Procession to Welcome Poila Baisakh 1433

Grand Multilingual Shobhayatra for Poila Baisakh 1433 in Silchar City

Silchar : In a vibrant effort to foster unity and celebrate the Bengali New Year, the Silchar Town Regional Committee of the Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan has announced a grand cultural procession for April 15, 2026. Marking the onset of 1433 Bangabda, this "Shobhayatra" is designed to be more than just a celebration; it is a powerful statement of harmony that resonates across the Barak Valley. The event will see people from diverse linguistic backgrounds marching together in their traditional attire, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the region.

A Journey of Unity and Tradition

The decision to host this colorful rally was finalized during a press conference held at Banga Bhawan on Saturday. Addressing the media, Regional President Deepak Sengupta noted that the organization has a fifty-year legacy of celebrating the New Year. While these celebrations were historically confined to schools and assembly halls, last year marked a significant shift toward public processions. That initiative gained immense popularity, even making headlines in the Brahmaputra Valley. This year, the organizers aim to exceed those expectations by gathering participants at the District Sports Association (DSA) premises at 6:30 AM on Wednesday, April 15. The procession will officially begin at 7:00 AM, winding through Central Road, Premtola, Hospital Road, Shyama Prasad Road, and Park Road before concluding at Banga Bhawan.

Strengthening the Multilingual Fabric of Barak Valley

Central to this year’s Poila Baisakh celebration is the message of "Multilingual Coordination." The rally serves as a platform where the Dimasa, Nepali, Rongmei Naga, Hindi-speaking, and Assamese communities will join the Bengali population to promote a sense of shared identity. Deepak Sengupta highlighted that since the formation of the Multilingual Coordination Committee in 2005, the organization has worked tirelessly to resist divisive narratives. By bringing various ethnic groups together with their unique tableaus, the event aims to counter any threats to the cultural existence of the people in the valley and promote a humanistic "Renaissance" of thought.

Honoring Heritage and the Future

The procession will be rich with symbolism, featuring a special tableau from the Barak Banga committee adorned with portraits of the Language Martyrs. Convener Supradip Dutta Roy emphasized that such initiatives are essential for preserving the heritage of the Bengali New Year and ensuring the survival of the community's cultural identity. As a gesture of solidarity, other local organizations have pledged their support to ensure the event proceeds smoothly without any conflicting programs. The grand march will conclude on a high note with the collective singing of the iconic anthem, "Amra Korbo Joy" (We Shall Overcome), signaling a new dawn of social harmony and togetherness for the residents of Silchar.
