SILCHAR : A massive fire broke out Tuesday morning in the Ramakrishna Sarani area of Sonai Road, triggered by a gas pipeline leak during an installation process. The incident occurred at the four-story residence of Ranjit Mitra, sending shockwaves through the densely populated neighborhood.
The Spark of Chaos
According to local sources, technicians from Purba Bharati Gas Private Limited were in the locality to provide new domestic gas connections. After successfully completing installations in two nearby houses, the team moved to Mr. Mitra’s residence. While connecting the meter on the ground floor, gas began leaking uncontrollably, and a sudden spark ignited a fierce blaze.
Delayed Emergency Response
As flames surged, panicked residents immediately alerted the Rangirkhari Police, who arrived at the scene promptly. However, the situation turned tense as locals, including resident Miton Biswas, alleged a significant delay in the arrival of the Fire and Emergency Services.
"The police were here, but the fire brigade took far too long. We watched the fire grow more dangerous by the minute while waiting for help," a local resident stated.
Control and Aftermath
Even after the fire tenders arrived, they initially struggled to douse the flames. It took a coordinated, long-drawn effort between the fire department and gas company experts to finally bring the inferno under control.
While no casualties were reported, the incident has sparked widespread outrage. Residents are now demanding stricter safety protocols during gas installations and faster response times from emergency services to prevent potential future tragedies.
