A shocking incident of violence has surfaced from Rajnagar village in South Dhalai, where a marriage negotiation turned into a bloody confrontation. What was intended to be a peaceful social settlement ended in tragedy when the groom's uncle was brutally attacked with sharp weapons. The victim is currently battling for his life at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
A Disputed Alliance and a Mediated Meeting
The roots of the conflict trace back to last Wednesday when 22-year-old Mojibur Rahman Laskar, son of Ainul Haque Laskar, brought 19-year-old Runu Begum to his home. Given that both individuals are consenting adults, village elders intervened to formalize the union socially. However, the bride’s family expressed strong reservations about the wedding taking place at the groom’s residence.
After prolonged discussions, a compromise was reached: the ceremony would be held at a mediator's house to avoid further friction. Trusting the agreement, the groom’s party, including senior family members, boarded a Maruti van and headed toward the designated venue in Rajnagar, unaware of the ambush awaiting them.
"We thought the matter was resolved through dialogue. We went there with the intention of starting a new chapter for the couple, but we were met with hatred and sharp blades instead," said a distressed relative of the victim.
The Ambush: Sudden Violence and Critical Injuries
Reports suggest that as soon as the vehicle arrived at the mediator's residence, the bride's two brothers and two sisters launched a pre-planned assault. In the ensuing chaos, the bride’s brother, identified as Akbar Hussain, allegedly pulled out a concealed sharp weapon and struck the groom's uncle, Ainul Haque Laskar, directly on the head.
The victim collapsed on the spot in a pool of blood. Local residents rushed to the scene and transported him to the Dhalai Primary Health Centre. Due to the severity of the head injury and his deteriorating condition, doctors immediately referred him to the Silchar Medical College for advanced neurosurgical intervention.
Police Crackdown and Local Tension
Following the violent attack, the four siblings involved in the crime fled the scene. However, vigilant locals managed to detain one youth present during the scuffle and handed him over to the Dhalai Police. Law enforcement officers arrived shortly after to record statements and begin a forensic analysis of the crime scene.
Currently, the Rajnagar area remains tense as the community reacts to the brutality of the incident. The Cachar Police have launched a massive manhunt to apprehend the absconding suspects. "We are investigating every angle of this premeditated attack, and the culprits will be brought to justice swiftly," a police official confirmed.
