BHUJ : Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that the pending infrastructure work on the India-Bangladesh border fencing has gained significant momentum. The progress comes immediately after the newly formed government in West Bengal granted in-principle approval for the required land transfer along the international boundary.

Interacting with the personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Border Outpost G-7 in Bhuj, Gujarat, the Home Minister emphasized that completing the secure perimeter remains a top national priority. He noted that the previously unfinished patches along the eastern frontier had been one of the primary challenges to comprehensive regional security.

Unfinished Border Fencing in Bengal Was Major Security Challenge

Addressing the jawans, Amit Shah pointed out that while geographical bottlenecks made construction difficult in certain riverine zones, vast stretches of land remained unfenced purely due to administrative delays in acquiring land from the state level. The breakthrough was achieved following recent administrative shifts in West Bengal.

"Our biggest vulnerability in national security was the incomplete border fencing in Bengal. We cannot change the natural geography, but where land was available, the work was stalled for years. Within just a week of the new governance taking charge, the Chief Minister has cleared the essential land transfers," Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated.

With the physical land acquisition process formally underway, central agencies are projecting a rapid closure of the open gaps. The ministry expects that the completion of this infrastructure will drastically reduce cross-border infiltration and enhance overall stability in the bordering districts.

BSF to Deploy Smart Border Security Project and Advanced Technology

Once the land-based barriers are fully established, the administration plans to tackle challenging terrains like dense forests and water channels through alternative measures. The central government is fast-tracking a technological surveillance system to monitor these highly sensitive and non-porous zones effectively.

As part of the modernization drive, the Home Minister highlighted the implementation of the Smart Border Security Project. This comprehensive security framework integrates advanced drones, high-frequency radars, strategic watchtowers, and modern thermal imaging to secure both the Pakistan and Bangladesh frontiers seamlessly.

The Home Minister’s visit to the Kutch region also included a detailed operational review of the security preparedness at the critical Sir Creek and Harami Nala sectors, where the BSF continues to maintain a strict round-the-clock vigil.
