SILCHAR : In a significant move to strengthen organizational roots and promote linguistic purity, the Barak Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan (Silchar Town Regional Committee) organized a day-long program at Banga Bhavan on Sunday. The event seamlessly integrated organizational growth with a scholarly tribute to the late literary icon Sukumar Bagchi through a dedicated Bengali Spelling Workshop.

Expanding the Horizon : Welcoming New Members

The proceedings commenced at 11:00 AM at the Ananta Deb Conference Hall, divided into two distinct sessions. The inaugural phase witnessed the formal induction of 22 distinguished citizens into the organization. Central General Secretary Paritosh Chandra Datta welcomed the new members, outlining the future roadmap and the organization’s vision for the Barak Valley.

The active participation of new members is vital for the preservation of our language and culture, noted senior officials during the organizational meet.

Prominent figures including Sanjib Deb Laskar, Gautam Prasad Datta, and Uttam Kumar Saha emphasized the necessity of collective efforts to safeguard the Bengali cultural heritage in the region. The leaders urged the newcomers to play a proactive role in the upcoming initiatives of the Silchar Regional Committee.

A Scholarly Tribute : Bengali Spelling Workshop

The second session was a profound academic endeavor dedicated to the memory of the eminent writer Sukumar Bagchi. Focusing on the technical nuances of the language, Dr. Rahul Das, Professor of the Bengali Department at Assam University, served as the primary trainer. He provided hands-on training, simplifying the complexities of Bengali grammar and orthography for the participants.

District President Sanjib Deb Laskar highlighted the importance of linguistic accuracy in daily life. "Mastery over the rules of Bengali spelling can only be achieved through consistent practice and the regular use of a dictionary," he stated during his address.

Focus on May 19 and Linguistic Awareness

With the historic Language Martyrs' Day (May 19) approaching, the committee expressed deep concern over the current state of the Bengali language. They reiterated that initiatives like this workshop are essential to foster awareness and ensure the correct usage of the mother tongue among the younger generation.

The event concluded on a high note, with organizers expressing optimism that such programs would not only boost organizational strength but also ignite a renewed passion for Bengali literature and culture across Silchar.
