Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum marked its Silver Jubilee with a mega camp on 19 May, collecting 101 units of blood in Silchar.

SILCHAR : Coinciding with the historic Language Martyrs Day, the Barak Valley Voluntary Blood Donors Forum commenced the second phase of its Silver Jubilee celebrations with a mega voluntary blood donation camp on Tuesday. Marking 25 years of uninterrupted humanitarian service, the milestone event witnessed an overwhelming response from citizens across the region.
Padmashree Dr Ravi Kannan Inaugurates the Humanitarian Drive
The formal proceedings began at 10:00 AM with the hoisting of the organizational flag by Central President Dr. Manoj Kumar Pal, alongside chief advisor Dr. Kumar Kanti Das and Prashant Kumar Basu, followed by floral tributes at the martyr’s memorial. At 11:00 AM, Padmashree Dr Ravi Kannan, Director of Cachar Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, officially inaugurated the donation drive by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Renowned gynaecologist Dr. Monika Deb and Blood Centre In-charge Dr. Shabnam Bahar Barbhuiya graced the occasion as distinguished guests. In his address, central secretary Ashu Pal traced the inspiring journey of the forum since its inception. A total of 101 donors, including 14 women, successfully donated blood to support the Cachar Cancer Hospital news initiatives, while certificates and medals were awarded to all participants.
Forum Honours Veteran Donors and Defunct Members' Families
The Silver Jubilee event also served as a platform to express gratitude to the community. The forum paid emotional tributes to its deceased members by felicitating their families. Furthermore, veteran donors who have donated blood more than 25 times were specially honoured for their life-saving contributions.
"Donating blood on the sacred occasion of 19 May is the highest form of tribute to our language martyrs," stated the forum officials during the event.
The medical team, led by Dr. Shabnam Bahar Barbhuiya and assisted by supervisor Jahirul Islam, smoothly managed the massive collection process. The day-long event, beautifully anchored by Cachar District General Secretary Sabyasachi Rudra Gupta, stands out as a landmark achievement for voluntary blood donation Assam networks, as confirmed in a press release by Central Publicity Secretary Sujoy Nath.
