HAILAKANDI : In a major step to ensure public safety and community harmony, the Hailakandi district administration has issued a set of comprehensive guidelines for the upcoming Muharram observance in Assam. The new regulations were finalised during a crucial coordination meeting held on Friday at the District Commissioner's conference hall with representatives of various celebration committees.

The high-level meeting was chaired by District Commissioner Abhishek Jain and attended by top brass of the district police force. Authorities reviewed the traditional route blueprints and emphasised maintaining absolute law and order across the valley during the event scheduled for June 26.

Weapon Display Banned and Lathi Length Restricted for Muharram

Addressing the stakeholders, Superintendent of Police Amitabh Sinha explicitly made it clear that the display of lethal weapons during the traditional Tazia processions will be strictly prohibited this year. No sharp-edged objects, swords, or traditional weapons will be allowed in public rallies under any circumstances.

The administration has also taken a definitive decision regarding the traditional lathis used during the event. To prevent accidental injuries and crowded commotions, the height and size of the lathis must remain strictly restricted, leaning towards smaller, manageable sticks instead.

"Our ultimate priority is to maintain the profound religious sanctity of the occasion while guaranteeing a safe and peaceful environment for every single citizen. The security machinery will stay on high alert, and no violations of these safety protocols will be tolerated," stated District Commissioner Abhishek Jain during the session.

Celebration Committees Promise Full Cooperation to Hailakandi Police

The law enforcement agencies have sought a clear undertaking from the organizers to ensure absolute compliance with the guidelines. Officials also discussed past instances regarding the unverified source of certain items in processions, stressing the need for tighter vigil and better institutional coordination.

Most of the committee members and prominent citizens present at the meeting warmly welcomed the preventive safety measures. The delegates assured the Hailakandi district administration of their full cooperation to make the nationwide observance peaceful, disciplined, and exemplary.

Sectors across the township will be monitored via dynamic police patrolling. Citizens and participants have been requested to strictly coordinate with on-duty volunteers and avoid creating any unnecessary congestion on major arterial roads during the final day.
