New Delhi : In a move carrying immense diplomatic weight, the Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday night for a two-day official visit. His arrival, occurring against the backdrop of strained US-Iran relations, highlights the strategic importance of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting hosted by India.

Araghchi traveled aboard a special aircraft named 'Minab 168,' a poignant tribute to the 168 students who tragically lost their lives in a school during previous American strikes. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, who shared a message of friendship between the two nations on social media.

Strategic Discussions and the Hormuz Strait Crisis

Under the chairmanship of India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, the summit will delve into critical global issues. A primary focus remains the volatile situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the current ceasefire, Tehran has maintained a firm grip on this vital oil artery.

"The Strait of Hormuz is not entirely closed; we have ensured that ships from friendly nations, including India, Russia, and China, can navigate safely," Araghchi had previously noted. This cooperation has been vital for India’s energy security during these turbulent times.

Diplomatic Maneuvers at BRICS

International analysts believe that Tehran seeks to use the BRICS platform to mount diplomatic pressure on Washington. While the bloc has historically been cautious about collective military stances, Iran hopes for a stronger unified message against unilateral sanctions and aggression.

As the BRICS nations gather in Delhi, the world watches closely to see if this alliance can offer a sustainable path to peace or if the geopolitical divide will further deepen.
