Jyotiraditya Scindia Arrives in Shillong for Key NEC Plenary Session on Northeast Development

Shillong, June 3 : Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, is set to begin a two-day visit to Shillong on Wednesday, during which he will participate in several high-level meetings, including the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC).

The plenary session, scheduled to be held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, will be chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, who also serves as the Chairman of the NEC.

According to official sources, the meeting will focus on critical issues related to the overall development of the Northeast. Discussions are expected to cover regional connectivity, infrastructure expansion, economic growth, and stronger inter-state coordination among the eight northeastern states.

The session will also review the progress of ongoing development projects and deliberate on future strategies aimed at ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth across the region.

During his visit, Scindia is also expected to attend a meeting related to the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC). The discussions are likely to explore how space technology and advanced digital solutions can further accelerate development in the Northeast.

Officials said special attention will be given to the use of technology in disaster management, transportation connectivity, agriculture, planning, and resource mapping.

The NEC plenary session assumes added significance amid the Centre’s continued efforts to strengthen regional integration and fast-track development across the Northeast. Senior government officials, chief ministers, and governors from the northeastern states are also expected to participate in the deliberations.
