Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Prepare for Afghanistan ODI Series at Special Training Camp in Mullanpur

New Chandigarh : The Indian cricket team has begun preparations for the upcoming series against Afghanistan, with the squad already arriving in New Chandigarh for the one-off Test match scheduled to begin on June 6. Attention will then shift to the ODI series, which is set to start in Dharamshala on June 13.

While the Test squad gears up for the opening fixture, senior stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to undergo a separate training program ahead of the ODI series. Reports suggest that Rohit, Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer will participate in a specialized training camp at the state-of-the-art Mullanpur facility from June 9 to 11 before joining the squad in Dharamshala.

Rohit reportedly did not attend the fitness assessment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence and was recently seen at the Mumbai T20 League. Team management has advised the Indian captain to focus on additional fitness training before the ODI campaign.

The camp could also include players transitioning from the Test squad to the limited-overs setup. Young pacer Prince Yadav, currently listed as a net bowler, is believed to be in contention for a place in the main squad.

Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over the availability of Mohammed Siraj. Team officials are reportedly assessing his workload following an extended IPL season. A final decision is expected within the next 48 hours, with alternatives such as Gurnoor Brar or Aqib Nabi being considered if rest is recommended.

Aqib Nabi has impressed in domestic cricket, playing a key role in Jammu & Kashmir’s successful Ranji Trophy campaign. However, much of the spotlight during the ODI series is expected to remain on the celebrated “Ro-Ko” duo, with Kohli carrying strong form into the series and Rohit working toward peak fitness.
