SONAI : A massive accidental fire completely reduced a residential house to ashes at Berabak Part-II Bhakrapar area under Sonai constituency on Monday afternoon. The heartbreaking incident has left a local family entirely destitute, stripping them of their lifelong savings, cash, valuables, and essential documents within a matter of minutes.

According to local sources, the fire broke out at around 2:00 PM in the house belonging to a local businessman, Piklu Babu Laskar. Fortunately, no family members were inside the house when the blaze started. Piklu was out attending to his business commitments, while his wife, Archana Begum Laskar, who works as a local ASHA worker, was away on her field duties. Two of their three children were at school during the time of the incident.

Tragedy Discovered by Young Child

The alarming situation came to light when the couple's youngest child, who had just returned from school and was playing with neighborhood children outside, noticed huge plumes of smoke and flames leaping from the roof. The child immediately raised an alarm, alerting the neighborhood to the unfolding Sonai fire accident.

"By the time we gathered and realized what was happening, the ferocious flames had completely engulfed the entire structure. We immediately informed the fire services and tried our best to douse the flames using domestic water sources, but the fire was spreading too fast for us to control," a next-door neighbor recounted.

Upon receiving the emergency call, a fire tender from the Sonai Fire Station rushed to the spot. After intense firefighting operations, the emergency personnel managed to bring the raging blaze under control and prevented it from spreading to adjacent households. However, despite their best efforts, the wooden-and-tin house was completely gutted.

Lakhs of Material Assets and Documents Reduced to Ashes

The magnitude of the tragedy hit home when the devastated couple rushed back to the spot only to find their tined roof collapsed and their hard-earned belongings turned into black soot. Archana and Piklu broke down in tears as neighbors tried to console them over their sudden and absolute loss.

The family revealed that assets worth several lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the blaze. This included critical gold ornaments, 40,000 rupees in hard cash, valuable electronic appliances, and all household furniture. In an even more tragic turn, the fire completely incinerated all their vital identity cards, educational certificates, and property documents, leaving them with no official records.

With three young children to feed, the family is currently taking temporary shelter under the open sky. While compassionate local residents have stepped forward to provide immediate food and clothing, community leaders have formally urged the district administration and disaster management authorities to sanction emergency rehabilitation assistance and financial relief to help the family rebuild their life.
