Udharbond Police seized 1,420 bottles of illegal cough syrup and arrested one person during a major anti-narcotics raid in Cachar district.
UDHARBOND : In a major breakthrough against the illegal narcotics trade, the Udharbond Police in Assam’s Cachar district conducted a successful raid on Monday afternoon, seizing a massive consignment of banned cough syrup. Acting on precise intelligence, law enforcement officials intercepted the contraband and arrested one individual in connection with the illegal hoarding operation, triggering widespread sensation across the locality.
According to official sources, the high-stakes operation was launched under the direct supervision of Udharbond Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SS Timung, with the active participation of Second Officer Kalidhar Taosang and a dedicated team of police personnel. The specialized anti-narcotics drive targeted the Durganagar Part-V village, an area that had been under the security scanner for sustained illegal drug storage and inter-state smuggling activities.
Massive Stockpile Uncovered in Warehouse Raid
The swift police crackdown targeted a local warehouse owned by Azizur Haque Barbhuiya (54), a resident of Durganagar Part-V and son of the late Abdul Hashim Barbhuiya. Armed with credible inputs about illicit storage, the police team conducted a thorough search of the suspected facility, uncovering hidden boxes containing a large volume of banned cough syrup.
"Our teams have been tracking illegal transit routes and storage hubs in the region. Upon counting the seized contraband at the spot, a total of 1,420 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup were recovered. The entire consignment was being hoarded illegally for distribution through clandestine networks," a senior police official stated.
The police team immediately confiscated the entire stock of contraband and took the accused warehouse owner into custody. The recovered items were safely transported to the Udharbond Police Station for formal registration of the case under relevant legal provisions.
Investigation Intensifies into Inter-State Nexus
The latest success comes amid a intensified state-wide crackdown against substance abuse and pharmaceutical drug peddling. Local residents have widely appreciated the proactive stance of the administration, as the unregulated distribution of such intoxicating syrups has been a growing concern for the safety of local youth.
Meanwhile, an active investigation has been initiated by the Cachar Police to trace the origin of the massive consignment and identify the intended transit destinations.
