SILCHAR : Gurucharan University observed the historic 19 May Language Martyrs Day with deep solemnity on Tuesday. The commemorative event commenced at 11:00 AM at the university's central martyr’s memorial, where faculty, staff, and students gathered to pay rich floral tributes to the heroes of the 1961 Bengali language movement.

Academic Leadership Focuses on the Power of Mother Tongue and NEP 2020

The second phase of the programme moved to the university conference hall, presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Niranjan Roy. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Roy paid tribute to the martyrs and shared a significant perspective on the modern educational landscape. He extensively analysed the propagation and promotion of regional languages as envisioned in the National Education Policy, NEP 2020 mother tongue guidelines.

Several high-profile academicians shared the stage, enriching the discourse on Gurucharan University Silchar campus. Registrar Prof. Bidyut Kanti Paul spoke eloquently on the strength and heritage of the 19 May struggle. Adding to the gravity of the discussion, Dean of Arts Prof. Asraf Hussain and Prof. Swarupa Bhattacharjee highlighted the contemporary relevance of preserving linguistic roots in a globalised world.

The event beautifully blended intellectual discussion with cultural expressions. The academic fraternity turned the day into a moving remembrance through songs, poetry, and dance. Prof. Anamika Chakraborty meticulously detailed the historical context of the movement, while Dr. Paulami Chakraborty delivered the opening song.

The university community witnessed an array of cultural performances by faculty members and students alike, including a dance by student Barnali Chakraborty and a song by Vaishali Kar.
