SONAMURA — In a significant crackdown on cross-border smuggling, police personnel operating under the Sonamura Police Station intercepted a substantial consignment of narcotics during a routine patrol along the NC Nagar border road.
The Interception
While conducting heightened surveillance in the sensitive border zone, patrolling officers discovered 33 kilograms of dried cannabis (ganja) abandoned along the roadside. The contraband was meticulously packed into 12 individual packets, each heavily reinforced with black adhesive tape to withstand the elements and evade detection.
Legal Proceedings and Valuation
Upon discovery, security forces secured the perimeter; however, no individuals were present at the scene to claim the consignment. Following standard legal protocols, the police seized the narcotics as "unclaimed property."
Preliminary assessments by authorities estimate the illicit cargo's market value to be approximately ₹6.60 lakh.
